A whirlwind courtship, a small wedding, and a surprise pregnancy would be the start of something beautiful for the couple, though it was something that even they didn't fully comprehend until the day they were welcoming their first born into the world. Braden Hayes Callaghan, a February baby who arrived half a week prior to his due date. From the first moment they held him in their arms, side-by-side in the hospital room that Bridget would call home for the next few days, the love they felt for each other, and for their little boy, grew into something that neither of them - or anyone else, for that matter, had ever seen coming. For all the talk of destiny, and meant to be, that single moment in time became the catalyst of a lifetimes worth of a greater love than either of them had ever imagined, and they were always quick to remind Braden of the role he'd played in that. For his part, Braden was like any other little boy. His aunts and uncles called him a rascal, and his teachers were often sending notes of reprimand home with him for all the trouble he got into both on the playground and in the classroom. This only worsened in the years to come - as he got older, and with the arrival of two younger sisters. He was a troublemaker, a ring leader; his charismatic personality lent itself to countless detentions and suspensions over the year. Despite that, he wasn't a bad student. He got good grades, got involved in sports, and made friends easily. Still, when his high school graduation came and went, the teachers and administration at Sleepy Hollow High were happy to see him go thanks to all the years he'd spent keeping them on their toes in one way or another. For Braden, all that meant was an opportunity to move on to bigger and better things. UC Berkeley was where he found himself the following year, falling into the typical freshman traps as he tried to adjust to a new city, a new state, and a new normal. With no one around to wake him up in the morning, and no teachers breathing down his neck about getting assignments in on time, his first semester was far from perfect. In fact, he spent most of it some degree of drunk and stumbling. The subsequent letters of reprimant and academic probation were what sobered him up - both literally and figuratively. He didn't want to be one of those deadbeats that moved back home after getting kicked out of college, with no future prospects and a minimum wage job that he hated. So he buckled down as much as he could, turned most of his focus on what was important, and made his way through college much better than he had high school. Four years away from New York were more than enough for Braden, though, and with his undergrad complete, he returned back to the place he called home for grad school. This time, though, it was with the knowledge that he couldn't just skate by. So he worked tirelessly, all nighters and coffee becoming his new best friends on the nights that found him stuck at a desk writing one paper or another. There was a new determination to the way he did things, and maybe one could attribute that to living, learning, and growing up. He didn't put too much thought into the reasons behind the madness, though. All that mattered was that the ends justified the means, and even though an MBA didn't guarantee him a job, it was better than walking into some posh building with a resumé that left an employer wanting, and him waiting on a phone call that would never come. Life after university wasn't at all what Braden had expected, despite being aware that the state of the economy meant the pickings were slim, and if not for him reconnecting with Erica Greenly - the daughter of his parents' best friends and the girl that he had spent much of his childhood tormenting in one way or another - Braden was certain he would have left New York again. Instead, he realized that their relationship when they were younger was not what it had appeared to be on the surface. The teasing and hair pulling and snarking that was volleyed back and forth between the two of them hid their real feelings toward each other. What started as casual dating, and a definite appreciation for the physical aspect of the relationship they'd embarked on soon turned to want and need and - much to both their surprise - love. It was a relationship almost reminsicent of the one that Declan and Bridget had embarked on over two decades earlier, and if ever Braden knew he was his father's son, it was right then. Right there. With Erica. Their relationship became just as professional as it was personal when they decided to go into business together a year after Erica finished her practicum for naturopathic medicine. It was a risky venture, and they both knew it, but there was a market for what they were planning on offering, and no one had ever gotten anywhere by talking and never doing. So they put in the busywork and, with the the help of a loan from the bank, embarked on a venture that they could only hope wouldn't leave them completely bankrupt withn the year. Eau de Vie Apoctheacry and Naturopathic Clinic was born out of sheer determination, motivation, and the lack of any real prospects in either of their respective field when it came to work. And though things started slowly, some months passing by with one or both of them discussing the possibility of throwing in the towel, the business is still going strong over seven years later. ![]() ![]() Eau de Vie Apothecary & Naturopathic Clinic was opened in 2007 in Sleepy Hollow, New York by Braden Callaghan and Dr. Erica Greenly, ND.
